Excellent climate

The climate of Tenerife is characterized by the softness of the summer and the warmth of the winter and by the constant presence of the sun almost all year round. With temperatures ranging from 170C in winter, to 250C in the warmer months, the atmosphere is cooled by the ocean breeze and the trade winds.

In addition, the island’s orography makes it possible to find very different climates from one area to another, to the extent that it is possible to enjoy the snow at the foot of Mount Teide and, on the same day, to sunbathe and go for a swim on the southern coast of the island.

“Temperatures in Tenerife range from 17ºC in winter, to 25ºC in the warmer months”

Natural Environment

Tenerife has an enviable natural environment, having within its surface area (2,034.38 km2):

  • A National Park (UNESCO World Heritage): Teide National Park.

  • A Biosphere Reserve granted by UNESCO: Anaga Rural Park.

  • A Rural Park with unique natural characteristics: Natural Park of Teno.

  • A network of hundreds of kilometers within the European Natura 2000 Network, which makes it one of the world’s leading sites for cetacean sightings or marine practices.

  • Hundreds of kilometers of coast where you can practice water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, etc.

  • An extensive network of trails at 3 heights, with some of the highest altitude trails in Europe and is the only destination within the EU that allows you to walk from sea level (zero altitude) to almost 4000 meters high (3718 meters, Pico del Teide)

  • A wide network of mountains where you can practise a lot of sports like canyoning, climbing or paragliding.

“Tenerife is a natural and sporting paradise with an enviable natural environment and climate conditions that allow you to enjoy it almost 365 days a year.”

Security

The Canary Islands have a low crime rate and are one of the safest places in Europe. Firearms and drugs are prohibited. Robbery rates are low, especially compared to our competition, and murder rates are around 1/10000.

This fact can make a difference for remote workers looking for a permanent safe place to live. It is also a LGBTQ-friendly and women-friendly destination, making it the ideal place to visit for women traveling solo or in groups.

Low cost of living

The Canary Islands enjoy a special tax regime, examples are:

  • The IGIC (General Indirect Canary Islands Tax) at 7%.

  • The almost total absence of state taxes on fuel and tobacco (the current costs of gasoline are close to 0.99 euros and 2.60 euros for cigarettes on average)

  • Many of the hidden taxes we are used to in Europe are much lower (the parking fee is almost non-existent, you do not pay for the use of roads, etc.)

Without a doubt, another point in favor of the islands is the fact that they have no heating costs since the temperatures are always pleasant, even during winter season. If we add to this the fact that the supermarket can cost up to half of what is usually paid in “Europe”, we have an almost perfect combination of cost of living.

The Numbeo portal offers statistics on the cost of living in different parts of the world. Using data from this portal, it is summarized below how much would be equivalent to 1,500.00 EUR per month of expenditure in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, compared to what it would cost to maintain the same standard of living in other cities of the world

High speed internet

The underwater cable of “Canalink” provides the island with high-speed internet.

In 2012, the Cabildo de Tenerife and ONO announced the arrival of real high-speed internet browsing in Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands. Since then, nearly 300,000 homes and Small and Medium Enterprises in the Canary Islands have been able to enjoy real 50 and 100 Mbps, making them the first in the whole archipelago to have access to these fast services.

To date, several providers such as Movistar, Vodafone, and Orange offer 300/600 Mbps symmetrical residential for an amount of approximately 40 EUR per month (including mobile phone and fixed land phone).

Convenient time zone

Tenerife uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). This means the time zone is exactly the same as the United Kingdom and Portugal. The islands are strategically located to be able to work remotely with most cities in Europe (just 1-2 hours behind) and in America (5-7 hours ahead).

Active & welcoming community

The community of remote workers and digital nomads has grown in the last few years. There are different groups that organize activities all year long all around the island. These events are a great opportunity to get to know the international and local community of the island first hand, make new connections and discover the island.
